Is the berry sausage really a wet lettuce?

Imagine my excitement rushing to my local Waitrose in Eaton near Norwich to sample strawberry sausages made pretty locally to me.
The sausage selection in the chiller looked pretty standard but on the whole I tend to like the Waitrose offering over the other supermarkets.
I went to the loose sausage counter only to find they had sold out. Brilliant I thought, the UK sausage loving population has been treated to a taste sensation, innovation in sausage making starting at the heart of British supermarkets. A sausage revolution?
No, the sausages come in cases of 18 and they only had one case which had, not surprisingly, sold out. If my local Waitrose is typical (and Norwich isn’t as small as say Saxmundham) then 18(!) sausages into the 200 stores in the UK means about 3,600 sausages across the whole of the UK. Or put another way about 0.03% of the daily UK consumption!
Disappointing to say the least. The build up in the press had been good. With some bad reviews already I was keen to try these for myself but with only 18 sausages to go around Norwich I left empty handed.
